Mount Collins, a 6,188-foot peak on the Tennessee–North Carolina border, stands on the Great Smoky Mountains crest between Kuwohi and Newfound Gap and is among the higher summits in the range. Its northern slopes hold important headwaters feeding the Little River and the West Fork of the Little Pigeon River, and its summit supports southern Appalachian spruce-fir forest. Named for Oconaluftee resident Robert Collins, who guided Arnold Guyot across the Smokies in the late 1850s, the mountain was also long known as Meigs Post. Today it is a major trail hub, where several routes meet near one of the park’s busiest backcountry corridors.
