Since 1804, this landscape has undergone many changes. The Army's Corps of Discovery, headed by Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, passed through here heading west. The hill standing here is man-made and is associated with the construction of Oahe Dam by the Army Corps of Engineers.
