Peavine Peak, the highest point on Peavine Mountain in northwestern Nevada, dominates the skyline above Reno and Sparks and has shaped both local history and landscape. Indigenous Great Basin peoples used the area long before mining, and archaeological evidence links it to Washo, Northern Paiute, Martis, and Kings Beach cultures. Its name came from prospectors who found wild pea vines near Peavine Springs. From the 1850s through the 1870s, small placer mining and short-lived settlements such as Poeville, Webster, and Brooklyn marked the mountain’s mining era. Today, its distinctive geology, trails, and service road make it an important recreation area.
