Anacostia Park is a major National Park Service recreation area in Washington, D.C., spanning more than 1,200 acres along the Anacostia River and including Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens and Kenilworth Marsh. As one of the city’s most important public open spaces, it is devoted heavily to everyday recreation, with extensive ballfields, picnic areas, basketball and tennis facilities, a pavilion for roller skating and events, boating access, and Langston Golf Course. The park also serves important operational roles, housing the United States Park Police helicopter aviation unit headquarters and the headquarters of National Capital Parks-East, making it both a major urban green space and a working part of the national park system.
