Pacifica State Beach is Pacifica’s southernmost large beach, a three-quarters-mile sandy crescent at the mouth of San Pedro Valley along State Route 1. Managed by the City of Pacifica under agreement with California State Parks, it draws more than a million visitors annually and is widely known to surfers as Linda Mar Beach, especially for beginner surfing. From 1989 to 2005, major shoreline and habitat restoration tied to San Pedro Creek flood control and estuary recovery made it an early example of managed retreat, improving habitat and public access. The beach also supports western snowy plovers and has become known for dog surfing events and its prominent oceanfront Taco Bell.
