Elephants Playground
Nature
Elephants Playground is a rock formation near Genesee in Plumas County, California, known for a dense cluster of large, tightly packed boulders. Their rounded, somewhat smooth shapes reminded early Anglo-American settlers of a herd of elephant torsos, which gave the place its unusual name. The formation is notable for its distinctive sculptural appearance and for the way the rocks gather closely together. Although the surrounding area was affected by the 2019 Walker Fire, the site remains a locally recognized landform valued for both its striking look and its memorable name.
