History
1
Mount Taylor, near DeBary, Florida, is an archaeological site best known as the type-place for the Mount Taylor period, a pre-ceramic culture of ancient Florida. This culture flourished from about 6,000 to 4,000 years before present, roughly 4000 BCE to 2000 BCE, primarily in the middle and upper St. Johns River valley and more limited parts of Florida’s middle and upper Atlantic coast. The site is significant because it gives its name to, and helps define, an early period of human activity in Florida. Mount Taylor was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on October 8, 1997.
