Built circa 1876 on land donated by John Campbell, this building served both as a school for African American students and as a church for the Cherry Hill community. It was a one-room school for grades 1-6, with Aaron Cooper and St. Julian Manigault as its first teachers, and became a public school within the Berkeley County school district in the early 20th century. By the 1920s, attendance had grown enough to require a one-room addition built on land donated by Mary Ann Cooper, and Daisy Pasley and Pansy Cooper were the first teachers in the expanded school. The school closed after the 1954-55 school year, when many rural schools in Berkeley County were consolidated, and it was rededicated as Cherry Hill Community Center in 2011.
