Inner Space Cavern, also called Laubach Cave, is a karst cave in Georgetown, Texas, formed in Edwards limestone and dolomite as groundwater dissolved rock along fractures created after the Balcones Fault formed. Estimated to be about 12 to 25 million years old, it later became a natural trap for Ice Age animals when surface openings exposed it during the late Pleistocene. Excavations uncovered remains such as a baby mammoth, giant sloth, and saber-toothed tiger. Rediscovered in 1963 during Interstate 35 construction, it was mapped that year, opened to the public in 1966, and now preserves both explored and still-blocked passages.
