The Joseph G. Caputo Community Center in Ossining is home to the Ossining Heritage Area exhibit, which presents the history of the first chartered municipality in Westchester County. Built after urban renewal and the widening of Route 9, the center contains a comprehensive exhibit on Sing Sing Prison and the Old Croton Aqueduct, both of which played critical roles in New York State history. The building also houses recreation and meeting facilities. Featured in the photo is the Weskoria Hotel, a prominent landmark at the corner of Broadway and Route 9, where travelers, many arriving by horse and carriage, could stay in the heart of the village.
