In 1907, the Milwaukee Northern Railway Company constructed a riveted-steel Thru Truss Bridge over Cedar Creek for its interurban train line between Milwaukee and Sheboygan. Manufactured by Carnegie Steel and measuring 159 feet long by 12 feet wide by 20 feet high, the bridge carried an electrically powered interurban that transported passengers and freight in and out of Cedarburg, while the railway depot and servicing area stood a few blocks away. Running every hour with precise regularity, the train made the trip between Milwaukee and Cedarburg in about an hour for less than 30 cents. In 1922, the Milwaukee Northern Railway Company was acquired by the Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light Company, and the interurban line operated until 1948. Today, the bridge serves as a pedestrian walkway, and portions of the old rail bed are used as a bike path.
