Slip Point Light stood on the Strait of Juan de Fuca at the eastern side of Clallam Bay, helping close a sixty-mile gap between Cape Flattery and Ediz Hook along an exposed coast. Built in reduced form after funding was appropriated in 1900, it began service in September 1905 as a lantern on the fog-signal building and was upgraded in 1916 with a short tower and fourth-order clamshell Fresnel lens visible from Canada. Its isolated layout required keepers to cross a long catwalk from the dwelling to the light. After later rebuilding, the station served until around 2000, when it was replaced by a buoy.
