History

Known in earlier days as the Drew Block, this building was erected in 1890 as a two-story structure, with a third story added soon afterward. Like other storefronts in town, it has north and south sides that housed many different businesses over the years. The north side held the Post Office until around 1901, followed over time by Sears Catalog Sales, Bernie's Superette, Marty's Superette and Big Ed's Variety, as well as a pet groomer and a this 'n that shop, and today it is home to Country Roots Hair Salon. On the south side were the State Liquor Store, various plumbing and heating businesses, Radio Shack, Oasis Waterbeds and Videos, and the business now known as First Run Pizza was originally located there. From 1899 to 1913, the Farmers and Traders Bank occupied the south side, with the Colebrook National Guaranty Savings Bank in the neighboring building.
