One and a half miles north of Georgetown, sailors from Georgia established claims in 1849. A general store and mining camp followed in 1850, and the area later produced by seam diggins, hydraulic, and flood sluicing methods. The Blue Rock, Pacific Beattie, and Upper Blue Rock mines were rich producers for over half a century.
