Silk Covered Bridge is a nineteenth-century covered bridge in Bennington, Vermont, carrying Silk Road over the Walloomsac River between downtown Bennington and North Bennington. Probably built in 1840 by Benjamin Sears, it is one of three covered bridges along a two-mile stretch of the river. The bridge uses a Town lattice truss, spans 88 feet, and retains a narrow fifteen-foot roadway and simple wooden construction characteristic of its historic single-lane design. Though damaged in flooding from Hurricane Irene in 2011, it was repaired and reopened. Its continued use and survival preserve an unusually dense cluster of historic covered bridges, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
