Born circa 1760, William Colbert was a notable Chickasaw warrior who fought in the American Revolution and beside Piominko in the 1790s. George Washington appointed him a major general in 1795. In 1813, William helped the Americans fight the Red Stick Creeks and was a representative at the 1816 and 1818 treaty negotiations. In the early 1820s, William and his wife Ishtanaha moved two miles east of Owl Creek Mounds along the Chukatunkacha Creek. He died at home on May 30, 1824, dressed in his finest warrior clothing.
