Potter's Grocery was a little one-room store owned by Isaac "Ike" Potter, a lifelong resident of Lecompte who was born in July 1895 and died in October 1972. After retiring as a mechanic from Roby Motor Company in Lecompte, he opened the store in the early 1950s, and it remained in operation until after his death. Located near the intersection of Canal and Holly Streets across from the Lecompte High School baseball field, the store sold soft drinks, snacks, snow cones, dry goods, and canned goods. Potter often served customers through a little wooden window, and for decades students bought cold drinks and snacks there during recess and baseball games. Known in town as "Mr. Potter," he lived next door with his wife Emma. In 1994 the Town of Lecompte bought the store and Mayor Sherman Roberts had it moved for preservation, after which the Lecompte Lions Club helped repaint and repair it.
