Salem Predestinarian Baptist Church and Cemetery is among the oldest in the county. It was founded on Dec. 3, 1853, by the Lee families, with Elders Thomas Dossey and C.T. Echols certifying to the constitution of the church. Elder Dossey gave it its name. The five-acre site was given by the W.H. McSwane family. Its first building of logs was later replaced by a frame structure, and the present chapel was erected in 1961.
