The Burglund Supermarket in the Burglund community was owned by several Black businessmen and served as a primary source of food for area residents. It included a meat market and employed a number of residents of the surrounding communities. Above the two-story supermarket were several rooms used as a meeting hall for a Masonic group and other community groups. During the Burglund High School walkout in October 1961, the Masonic meeting room was used as a briefing station for the march down to the McComb City Hall.
