On February 9, 1830, citizens in Seaford who favored reform of the Methodist Episcopal Church joined together to plan a new church, and the next day they purchased an existing meeting house on Chapel Branch. That frame structure was moved to the present site beside the Hooper Burial Ground. Led by Dr. William Morgan, a physician and long-time local preacher, the congregation affiliated with the emerging Methodist Protestant denomination. A new frame church was built in 1862, and continued growth led to construction of the present brick building beginning in 1897. The new church was dedicated on June 5, 1898. Numerous additions followed, including a pipe organ in 1911, with one-third of the cost given by Andrew Carnegie. In 1962 the sanctuary was remodeled and enlarged, the original stained glass was preserved in the new sanctuary, and the Chapel retained much of its original appearance.
