Bluerock Mountain, a 2,835-foot peak in western North Carolina near Bat Cave, stands between the Broad River and Reedypatch Creek, with neighboring ridges and Paris Gap shaping local connections along Lake Lure Highway. Split between Henderson and Rutherford counties, its protected land includes the Bat Cave Preserve and part of Chimney Rock State Park. The mountain is most significant as the site of Bat Cave, named for the several bat species that live there. Bat Cave is the largest known granite fissure cave in North America, giving the area major geological and ecological importance, and conservation now takes precedence over public access.
