Lake Thunderbird State Park in Oklahoma is a large recreation area centered on the manmade Lake Thunderbird, east of Norman. Designed for heavy public use, it offers marinas, boat ramps, swimming beaches, hundreds of RV and primitive campsites, and facilities for boating, fishing, and camping. Land-based activities include hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, hunting, archery, and equestrian use. A volunteer-run boathouse and education foundation support sailing lessons, camps, regattas, and a fishing derby for developmentally disabled children. The lake also draws anglers with stocked fish, winter visitors on guided bald eagle tours, and occasional local folklore and musical references.
