The Strawberry Hill Hotel was built by John Barrett in 1874 with a capacity for 100 guests. It differed from the grand hotels for the wealthy as it catered to middle-class visitors. The hotel was noted for its fine wicker furniture in the lobby. It remained in the Barrett family until 1939 when it was sold to the Reiss family. They retained ownership until 1963 and the hotel was torn down in 1965.
