Around 1850, Samuel Haislip built this log-and-cedar-sided home for his wife and their seven children, with the original structure containing two bedrooms. The house was later owned by John William Hall, a Confederate veteran who served as a courier during the Civil War and was the husband of Haislip's youngest daughter, Sophia, and while Hall owned it, it was rented to different families over the years until it became vacant. The house accommodated numerous people, including enslaved people; when it was built, the Haislips owned two enslaved persons, and by 1860 the enslaved population at the Haislip farm had grown to 11 individuals. There is no documentation of where the enslaved lived on the farm, though some most likely lived in the house and others in agricultural buildings. Originally located off of Linton Hall Road, the house was moved to its present site in 2000, and its restoration was completed between 2007 and 2008, offering a view of life on a nearly 500-acre Virginia farm in the 1850s.
