At Camp Chesterfield, three primary structures have stood in the same location over the years. The original structure, built about 1891 and known as the Old Auditorium, was first a large tent with a raised wooden platform for message work. In 1903, it was replaced by a new building called the Second Auditorium, which remained until 1953, when it was razed to make way for the present structure, the Cathedral of the Woods. The Cathedral was dedicated on June 26, 1954. Every summer during the high season from June to September, the auditorium hosted all message services, regular church services, special events, and ordination and consecration ceremonies, drawing hundreds of people. Afterwards, visitors went to the dining hall for refreshments, sat for readings, attended seances, or walked the beautiful grounds.
