Established in 1909, Michilimackinac State Park is Michigan's second state park and offers views of the Mackinac Bridge, picnic areas, and two historic sites, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse and Colonial Michilimackinac. Along with Mackinac Island State Park and Mill Creek State Park, it is under the care of the Mackinac Island State Park Commission. Historic Mill Creek preserves one of the oldest industrial sites on the Upper Great Lakes, where the creek powered the cutting of timber into lumber and visitors can explore more than three miles of trails. Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, established in 1889, guided ships through the treacherous waters of the Straits of Mackinac and now offers tours, demonstrations, and the Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum. Colonial Michilimackinac, established in 1715, is an 18th-century fort and fur trading village with artillery and musket firings, hearth cooking, crafts, and North America's longest ongoing archaeological dig, presenting life at the dawn of the American Revolution.
