James Drane served as president pro tem of the state Senate from 1857 to 1865, was defeated by W. McWillie in the governor’s race in 1857, and was a delegate to the Charleston Democratic Convention in 1860. He was the son and grandson of Revolutionary soldiers. His house was moved here in 1981 and restored.
