Born in Piedmont on July 29, 1900, Don Redman began playing trumpet at age three and had learned to play all wind instruments by age twelve. He graduated from Storer College in 1920 and became the first great arranger in jazz, internationally known as “The Little Giant of Jazz.” He had a profound influence on the development and direction of jazz until his death in 1964.
