Premier Creamery
Industry
The Premier Creamery served Coalinga for over 60 years. Its Fountain and Bottling Company operated in 1917 at the original site at 358 N. 5th St., and the 6th and Elm St. site was established in 1938. During the 1920's oil boom, the business sold milk, butter, eggs, canned goods, and other provisions. Later it provided fresh bottled milk and milk products at the fountain or by doorstep delivery. Its Ice Cream Fountain and Cafe became a social gathering place while serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the bottling plant was located in the same building. The building was destroyed in the Coalinga Earthquake on May 2, 1983. The proprietors were Ed Brennan in 1917, Edward J. "Ted" O'Neill in 1920, Thomas "Tommy" Lennon, and Edward T. "Bud" O'Neill; Tommy and Bud were nephews of Ted O'Neill, and all the proprietors were Irishmen.
