The Charles H. Spencer hulk is the remains of a stern-wheel steamboat on the Colorado River at Lee's Ferry in northern Arizona, preserved as an archaeological site. It was built for prospector Charles Harvey Spencer's short-lived effort to extract gold from Chinle Formation shale after he arrived in 1910. To supply coal from an upstream seam to his refining works, the boat was built in San Francisco, shipped in pieces to Utah, and hauled by ox-cart for assembly near Lee's Ferry. The venture soon faltered, the boat was abandoned in 1914, and a 1921 flood sank it, leaving a rare relic of an unsuccessful industrial scheme.
