Built as a Catholic parochial school in 1914, the facility was successively called St. Agnes Academy, St. Agnes High School, and San Joaquin Middle School. The adjoining building, built in 1920, served as a convent for the Dominican Sisters. Neo-classic and late Beaux-arts design highlight this complex of yellow buff brick, arched porch, and terra cotta capped pilasters.
