On November 24, 1863, Wiedrich's Battery, Battery I of the 1st New York Light Artillery, part of Osborn's Artillery in Steinwehr's 2nd Division of Howard's 11th Corps under Hooker's command of the 11th and 12th Corps, opened fire about 10 A.M. from this position on the enemy's rifle pits at the base of Lookout Mountain. Its fire was effectively sustained until the enemy reached the earthworks under the point of Lookout Mountain, closely pursued by Union forces. The battery also built these redoubts, occupied them from November 9 to November 25, and during that time was under fire from the enemy's artillery on Lookout Mountain.
