The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service protects and conserves the country’s wild birds, mammals, and fish for the enjoyment of all people. Working with the states and other countries, it carries out programs to preserve wildlife heritage by administering federal aid programs, managing more than 500 National Wildlife Refuges and about 50 National Fish Hatcheries, protecting wildlife environments, conducting research, helping endangered and threatened species, enforcing wildlife laws, and providing outdoor recreation.
