Switzer Covered Bridge, built around 1855 by George Hockensmith near Switzer in Franklin County, Kentucky, carries Rocky Branch Road over North Elkhorn Creek. Measuring 126 feet long and 11 feet wide, it is an especially narrow one-lane rural bridge typical of its era. The bridge survived a possible destruction in 1953 and, after high water knocked it from its foundation in March 1997, was rebuilt later that year instead of being replaced. Its survival has preserved a rare mid-19th-century crossing, and its significance was formally recognized when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
