Built in 1832 as a law office for John Lockhart, the building was bought in 1880 by the Young Men's Christian Association, becoming the first chapter south of the Mason-Dixon Line to own a building. The Andrew Barry Moore Chapter of the U.D.C. was organized here in 1903, and the building also served as a meeting place for other organizations. It was sold to the city in 1928 for use as city hall, given to Marion Military Institute in 1968, and became the Alabama Military Hall of Honor in 1988.
