New Point Comfort Natural Area Preserve
Nature
New Point Comfort Natural Area Preserve is a one hundred five-acre protected area in Mathews County, Virginia, on the Chesapeake Bay whose chief importance lies in its wildlife habitat. Located along the Atlantic Flyway, it serves as an important stop for migrating birds and supports species that nest and breed there, including the rare least tern. Parts of the preserve also provide habitat for the northeastern beach tiger beetle, which is listed as threatened in the United States. Its shoreline, marsh, and forest create diverse habitats in a compact area. Owned and maintained by The Nature Conservancy, the preserve is open to the public.
