On his last Kentucky raid, Gen. John H. Morgan and his raiders entered the state on June 1, 1864, took Mt. Sterling on June 8, lost it on June 9, took Lexington on June 10, and Cynthiana on June 11. The USA under Gen. S.G. Burbridge defeated the CSA the next day. Morgan retreated through here, reaching Virginia on June 20. The raiders never recovered from this reverse.
