Union School was a one-room schoolhouse that provided elementary education from kindergarten through eighth grade to the Brookman Community from 1907 to 1955. The structure is an example of early African-American vernacular architecture. In the school's early years, one of its students, Mrs. Ophelia Johnson Killens, attended from kindergarten through fourth grade. Mrs. Killens has been the school's sole caretaker since 1955. Past teachers included Allie Baldwin, Gwendolyn Hankin, Ethel Chambers, Mamie Hightower, Elizabeth Roundtree, Donnie Mitchell, Mrs. Golsby, and Daisy Waye.
