Faith
McMahan's Chapel is the oldest Methodist church with a continuous existence in Texas. It was organized as a religious society in 1833 at the home of Colonel Samuel McMahan by the Rev. James P. Stevenson (1808-1885). It became a Methodist Church in July 1834 through the Rev. Henry Stephenson. The first building was completed in 1839 by the Rev. Littleton Fowler and was given the name McMahan's Chapel. That building was replaced by a new one in 1872 and again in 1900.
