Oak Ridge Park in Clark, New Jersey, near Edison, is a ninety-acre Union County park created in 2009 from the former Oak Ridge Golf Course. Beneath its modern recreational landscape lies the older Homestead Farm at Oak Ridge, once part of a two hundred eight-acre tract with colonial boundaries that functioned as a large plantation-type farmstead until 1929. One researcher has suggested the property may contain New Jersey’s only known slave dwelling ruins, adding broader historical importance. Part of the farm became an eighteen-hole golf club in the 1930s and remained so for about eighty years before conversion to public parkland, which also introduced Union County’s first public archery range.
