Gambrill State Park is a Maryland park on Catoctin Mountain near Frederick, known for sweeping views from stone overlooks atop High Knob. It was named for James H. Gambrill, Jr., a Frederick businessman, civic leader, and conservationist who helped secure the land by persuading other businessmen to buy it and donate it to the city, which later transferred it to the state. Dedicated on September 7, 1934, the park took much of its lasting character from Civilian Conservation Corps work in the 1930s, including roads, overlooks, picnic shelters, the Tea Room, and the ranger’s residence. It remains a public recreation area today.
