Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, opened in 1972 as the larger successor to Cincinnati’s flood-prone Coney Island after years of concern about flooding, space, and parking. Developed by Taft Broadcasting, the park quickly gained national attention through major attractions, television exposure, and high-profile stunts. Early signature rides such as The Racer helped revive interest in roller coasters, while later additions including The Beast cemented its reputation. As ownership passed from Taft to several later companies, the park continued to expand and rebrand. Today it remains one of North America’s leading seasonal amusement parks, known for its scale, themed areas, and landmark coasters.
