Nature
Scenic State Park near Bigfork, Minnesota, preserves 3,936 acres of virgin pine forest and lakeshore around Sandwick and Coon lakes, with parts of several other lakes within its boundaries. Established in 1921 on land earlier used by the Ojibwe for hunting, it is valued for both its relatively undisturbed natural setting and its historic park development. Two districts built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Rustic style are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including log service buildings and a larger lakeside complex begun in 1933. The park remains both a recreation area and an important Depression-era historic landscape.
