McLennan County was created on January 22, 1850, and organized on August 5, 1850. It was named in honor of Neil McLennan, 1787-1867, who came to Texas in 1835 and was located on the Bosque River in 1840. He built the first dwelling, a log cabin, in Waco, the county seat of McLennan County.
