Chattahoochee State Park occupied 596 acres in southeastern Alabama on the Florida line along Irwin's Mill Creek. Though known as a state park, it was operated by Houston County. Much of the park was developed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, which built dirt roads and a natural stone dam that formed the 23-acre CC Pond, and traces of their camp long remained. The site also lay near an 1818 First Seminole War skirmish. Its modern history turned sharply when Hurricane Michael hit in October 2018, destroying most facilities and many trees, leading to permanent closure as recovery costs exceeded available state funds.
