Elkin & Alleghany Railroad Depot
Transportation
3
The Elkin & Alleghany Railroad Depot stood in what is now the parking lot. It was a 35-foot-long building painted tan with brown trim. The railroad curved to the left between the E & A office and the depot to connect with the main line of the Southern Railway. When the railroad closed in 1931, its last general manager, John P. Ipock, received the depot yard and buildings for back wages owed him and operated a successful coal yard on the lot for many years.
