Florey Park takes its name from the old town of Florey, established as a post office seven miles to the northeast in 1909 before Andrews County was organized in June 1910. In the heart of the Means Oil Field, opened in 1930, the park stands on the site of a 1934-1958 camp of the Humble Oil and Refining Company. During the camp's twenty-four-year history, its many residents developed an oasis there, and the recreation area, with lush grass and tall trees, drew visitors from throughout the county. On September 22, 1958, the Humble Company donated the land for use as a county park.
