On Nov. 18, 1863, a special train carrying Abraham Lincoln and his party to Gettysburg for the dedication of the National Cemetery changed railroads here. Earlier that year, wounded soldiers were transported from the Gettysburg battlefield to this junction and then sent on to distant hospitals. In 1863 it was also a chief point on the Military Telegraph line.
