Fundraising for the Ephrata War Memorial Field Complex began in December 1945 to create a living memorial to those who served, with $50,000 needed for a football field, tennis courts, a track, and a baseball field. In 1947, Cloister Post No. 429, American Legion, Inc. entered into a 99-year lease with the Ephrata War Memorial Association for $1.00 per year. The first Ephrata High School varsity football game at War Memorial Field was played on September 11, 1948, when Ephrata lost to Muhlenberg Township 7-6. The first baseball game at the complex was played on March 24, 1949, when Ephrata defeated Rothsville High School 18-7. In 1954, Cloister Post No. 429, American Legion, Inc. sold the complex land to the School District of Ephrata Borough, while the existing agreement remained in effect. In 1957, the Ephrata Union School District began leasing the land to the Ephrata War Memorial Association under a new agreement that required an annual payment of $1.00. In 1962, Ephrata High School students joined the War Memorial Association and the Ephrata Junior Chamber of Commerce in raising money for an electric scoreboard. In 2014, a dedication ceremony celebrated the installation of a synthetic turf playing surface with fields for football, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, and field hockey, a project launched by a $1 million anonymous donation. In 2015, the original bathroom building, constructed in 1950, was demolished and replaced with a larger facility that included a new training room.
