The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial
History
4
At Anne Arundel Community College, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial was given by the Citizens of Maryland on August 27, 2006, as a reminder that an individual can make a difference. The memorial includes a statue of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., sculpted by Ed Dwight, and a wall of quotes with five bronze plaques bearing quotations from his landmark speeches that represent the principles for which he gave his life, along with a Peace Garden. The quotations emphasize peace and prosperity for all, the struggle and sacrifice required for justice, the need for vigorous action rather than apathy, education joined with character, repentance for the silence of good people, and the moral ends of personal character and social justice, as well as the opportunity to bring love into civilization.
